Mosquito - Culex pipiens - Female

This mosquito was floating on a feather in the pool with all the larvae. I don't know if that means she has any relation at all, but here she is.

Thanks! And, good thought. Can you tell if a mosquito is "fresh", like you can with butterflies and cicadas?

yes
tou can see her abdomen extends beyond her wings and kind of curves up. That means she is fresh

And when they are real real fresh the setae on the antennae and the palps are not erect.
