Symmerista leucitys, Orange-humped Mapleworm? - Symmerista suavis
Kohl's Ranch, Gila County, Arizona, USA
October 29, 2017
Size: ca. 40mm
elev. ca. 5320 ft. Ponderosa pine/oak/juniper forest vicinity Tonto Creek. Found wandering on the ground.

I don't think this species is known to be here, but it's the closest I come with the photos I've found.

Moved from Symmerista.Read the new fascicle a couple of times and it seems suavis is the most likely choice for this beauty. The lavendar hump with three orange spots fits the description of solistella, but that seems to be restricted to Central Texas.

More photos added
I just added two photos of the pupa of this caterpillar to document the pupal stage. Unfortunately, it did not emerge.

Thanks
....for your vote. It has now made itself a webbing and leaf nest. I don't think it has formed a pupa yet. I hope it will survive through the winter to emerge next year and we'll know for sure.
