unknown mymarid - Alaptus eriococci

unknown mymarid - Alaptus eriococci
San Marcos, Hays County, Texas, USA
October 25, 2017
Size: 0.3 mm
I noticed this individual in one of my rearing vials for Lachesilla forcepeta. There were numerous eggs of that species in the vial so I assume this mymarid lays its eggs on the eggs of L. forcepeta. I found a second mymarid in another vial so I may be able to obtain numerous specimens if anyone out there is brave enough to take this on. I apologise for the poor quality of my image. If it had been mounted in the proper orientation on a permanent slide it may have been easier to photograph. I was shocked when Bioquip quit selling Euparol. What are we serious amateurs to do???

Moved from Fairyflies.

Edward Ruden
made some remarkable images of this specimen and identified it as Alaptus eriococcid

Camptoptera sp.?
Wings and antennae look similar:

but don't consider this an ID. If you can send me specimens, I'd like to experiment with different imaging techniques. Maybe something like this:

But at that size, I'll probably not be able to position the appendages so nicely.

Euparal and its essence are apparently still available from Carl Roth. Read this.

You made my day!
I'm so glad to hear that euparol is still available.

I plan to look for more mymarids that emerge from psocid eggs. I will preserve them in 95% ethanol and send them along. As you know, just "capturing" something that small can be challenging. They have a way of disappearing.

THANK YOU ... Diane
