Unusual Crane fly - Pedicia - female

Unusual Crane fly - Pedicia - Female
Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia, USA
September 17, 2007
Size: 2 3/4 inches (leg spread)
Rarely would I call a Crane fly spectacular, but this one earns that distinction. I've never seen anything like it before. I'd love to know the species. I presume it is a female, based upon what appears to be an ovipositor on the distal abdomen.

Great looking insect
On another note, I lived in Scott Depot for several years back in the late 90s. I miss the leaves at the New River Gorge.
