St. Andrews leaf miner on Clethra alnifolia SA1218 2017 1 - Coptotriche

St. Andrews leaf miner on Clethra alnifolia SA1218 2017 1 - Coptotriche

This is almost definitely a miner--could be like a Coptotriche. Of course the mines are empty--I found about 5 mines on three leaves of one plant. I will send one leaf with the two most intact mines to you. I checked as many other plants, and found no other mines.

I think you are right about the plant ID--I was suspecting I was wrong as of last night, yet I couldn't think of what it actually was. Aronia fits better. I don't see it often here, but occasionally. I took a photo of the plant I got these from, and I think a tiny Aronia plant was growing right next to a Clethra. I think I can see the Aronia in the photo, but it is over-topped by the Clethra.
