Brown Fly to ID please. - Scathophaga

Brown Fly to ID please. - Scathophaga
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
April 8, 2005
Size: 3/8 inch
A very small brown fly, very active amongst a shrub with no flowers. The brown caught my eye as most ot the insects flying around the garden are black, mason bees and other flies. ID would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, Dung fly it is!
So a member of the family Scathophagidae, and i think it is safe to say that it belongs to the genus Scathophaga.
Would this be a picture from Europe, I would say it is Scathophaga stercoraria, the 'Golden dungfly'. For the USA I don't know for sure!
Greetings,
Gerard Pennards

Fly ID
I took the picture in Victoria BC. It does look like those posted by Troy linked to in the other reply. Thanks for your input.

I'm shooting in the dark...
Perhaps a species of Dung fly?
