underwater beetle - Helophorus
Ailsa Craig, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada

Size: 7-8 mm
In flood pool beside river. Crawled on underwater vegetation and swam to various spots but never surfaced in the few minutes I watched. The water here is less than 5 cm deep.

Says Hydrophylid to me
This appears to be a Helophorus sp.
