Buffalo Bayou at Woodway, Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
November 12, 2017
I thought this was a pretty neat thing to find. It appears a tiger beetle larva preyed on a damselfly (Powdered Dancer, specifically). Found as shown in the first image. I then removed the damselfy from the beetle larva's burrow, but broke the abdomen in the process. The head is missing, but I don't know if that's because the beetle larva consumed it or because it broke off in the burrow.

The most common adult tiger beetles in this location, as far as I've seen, are Cicindelidia ocellata, with C. trifasciata running a distant second.

Feel free to frass.
