Fringed Diving Beetle - Cybister fimbriolatus - Male

Size: 32 mm
Ventral surface showing the lovely hydrodynamic shape of the body. Here are the differences between Cybister and Dytiscus visible on the underside, according to Dillon (1) and Ciegler. (2)
  • Lower hind tibial spur much wider than upper in Cybister, spurs similar in size in Dytiscus. This can just be seen in this photo, I think.
  • Metatibia of Cybister is short and broad, that of Dytiscus is longer.
  • Prosternum of Cybister is greenish, that of Dytiscus is reddish.
  • Structure of adhesive pads on male protarsi differs between the two genera.
