elmid - Optioservus quadrimaculatus
Honeydew Creek, Honeydew Creek Campground, King Range National Conservation Area, Humboldt County, California, USA
August 5, 2007
Size: 2mm
Identified by Cheryl Barr, who says that this may be the most common elmid in California. I found quite a lot of them in Honeydew Creek and also some in the one other creek I searched during my August Humboldt County trip.

This beetle was in shallow water when I photographed it.

more full-bodied :)
overall body shape appears more robust than the ones I see back east, nice coloration too :)
