Colorful Larva! Found Sept. 18, 2007 - Euclea delphinii
Cumberland, Western MD, Allegany County, ACM campus County, Maryland, USA
September 19, 2007
Size: 1"
This beautiful creature I found in a Red Oak outside the door to my classroom! I was searching the Oak for some larvae specimens to keep in my bug box at home. I have a terrarium for these amazing critters to enjoy as I watch their growth and development, and hopefully, their metamorphosis. I have searched high and low trying to figure out what this is, and unfortunately, I have found nothing. He has no legs and moves like a slug, and he has many barbs that are hairy all over his back. He is not an aggressive critter and doesn't even flinch when I examine him via hand lens and key.
