Fingered Lemmeria - Lemmeria digitalis
Town of Baileys Harbor, Hidden Corners Sanctuary, Door County, Wisconsin, USA
September 29, 2002
Size: Wingspan: 7/8 in.
Adult came to night light. ID was made by an expert examination of the specimen. It was a Door County Record. According to "Biological Names and Terms" by Edmund C. Jaeger, digitalis, is a Latin word "pertaining to a finger." This moth likes humid locations, Cattail marshes, peat bogs, swamps, which is what is available here.

For what reason this species
For what reason this species is placed in the Amphypirinae subfamily? There is only one genus that belongs to this subfamily in North America - Amphipyra. Lemmeria belongs to the subfamily Xyleninae according to AllLeps.

Thank you
You people are pretty sharp and quick. I think I found the subfamily on the Moths of Maryland website, too. Otherwise, I couldn't find it anywhere in my books. Thank You! Thank You!

Thanks
For catching this. Moths of Maryland has it under Amphypirinae. Probably a mistake.
