Coleoptera larva?

Coleoptera larva?
Green County, Wisconsin, USA
March 27, 2017
I could not tell if this was emerging from this gall or if it had attacked whatever was in there. Sadly, I did not record the plant. In this area there were mostly non-native cool season grasses.

Hi Marci
I believe this is a clerid larva (family Cleridae). I have found clerid larvae in stems and galls before, where they are presumably feeding on the other insects present. Here's one in the genus Isohydnocera that MJ reared from a gall:

This webpage states: "Many species [of clerids] in the genera (Phyllobaenus and Isonhydnocera) are found on herbaceous vegetation. The larvae often feed on gall insects and the adults are predaceous on various insects found on flowers and vegetation."
