My best guess: Carabus nemoralis or Metrius contractus Stenomorpha sp.

not sure what else like this would be that far north...

Not carabid
Carabids have normally-threadlike antennae and protruding, obvious jaws, and this beetle has moniliform antennae. I’m pretty sure it’s one of the darkling beetles.
