Ghosty broad-nosed weevil - Ophryastes latirostris

Ghosty broad-nosed weevil - Ophryastes latirostris
Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, USA
November 25, 2017
Size: TL 17-18 mm
This was an incredibly interesting weevil encountered at the new Fossil Bone Exhibit in Big Bend National Park. The weevil was seen walking across pale, pebbly desert pavement. It initially froze when I approached it to photograph it. Then when I picked it up to get hand-held images, it clung to a small pebble and played dead--didn't move a muscle until I set it back down on the ground again. (Released alive and well.)

must be it, good call
Moved from Ophryastes.

I've tried keying this out in Davis's 1947 monograph on the tribe(1) and it seems to match O. latirostris which is known from (at least) AZ-NM-UT-CO-TX.
