Trepobate Water Strider? - Trepobates

Trepobate Water Strider? - Trepobates
Great Falls, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
September 6, 2007
I captured (photographically) a group of these guys just hanging out on the water, and when I looked at the photo, noticed they had different colorations. I assume they're still the same kind of insect, but figured I'd post up the variations here, cropped into separate images. Have I guessed what they are correctly? I see not many images of Trepobates here, and they all appear to be of one color type.

T. pictus
A different species- there is a pale lateral mesonotal stripe that extends the entire length of the mesonotum just behind the darker pronotal stripe.

Immatures? Different gender?
Good observations. I can't offer a good explanation, but suspect it is either an age or gender difference.

Perhaps I should post a shot of the group -
Most of these that I've posted were the same size, but there were others that were definitely smaller.
