Moth - Orthosia praeses

Moth - Orthosia praeses
Kirkland, King County, Washington, USA
February 20, 2015
Could this be a plain morph of Orthosia praeses?

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

I think so too.
They're very variable and I haven't often seen them quite this dark, but I did have one which was similar confirmed to species by BOLD, DNA a few years ago. The time of year is right too.

Thank you for looking!
Unless you think otherwise, I'll move it as the shape of the marking looks correct to me and the shape of the face looks distinctive.

Yes, agree with moving it,
- same reasons as you!
