Widespread in western Canada north to YT and NT and east to ON. In the US, recorded in MI and WA.

Food
Larvae are solitary leafminers of willows, Salix spp.
Remarks
Argyresthia pygmaeella is a poorly studied species. North American specimens may refer to 2447 Argyresthia chalcochrysa Meyrick, 1913. DNA barcode separates Nearctic specimens of pygmaeella, BIN BOLD:AAA6669, from Eurasian, BIN BOLD:ADD9964, by nearly 2%. One of the specimens in AAA6669 is identified as chalcochrysa.
