Beetle - Scarites subterraneus

Beetle - Scarites subterraneus
Sand Springs, Osage County, Oklahoma, USA
September 23, 2007
Size: 5/8"
I've been trying to get a pic of this guy for a while. I saw one in the soft dirt under a piece of plastic one day but wasn't able to get a picture of it. I've seen these a couple of times since. They like to bury themselves in the soft dirt. I finally had to catch this one. Notice the large mandibles they have. Please help with ID.

Carabidae : Scaritini : Scarites
Three ground beetle species of Scarites are known in OK of which S. subterraneus is the best fit for size as the other two species are usually larger than 5/8 in. I can't be sure that the image shows the moniliform antennomeres characteristic of S. subterraneus. At any rate, Scarites is badly in need of revision and reliable species keys.

Looks like something in the s
Looks like something in the subfamily Scaritinae in the ground beetles, maybe even Scarites itself
