Found on my friends shoulder :/ - Anisomorpha buprestoides - Male Female
Jacksonville, Jacksonville County, Florida, USA
December 12, 2017
Size: 3 inches

Moved
They are plant-feeders, but can spray a defensive secretion in self-defense that can cause temporary blindness and burning. If you leave them alone they won't bother you. I've handled them before (carefully) and haven't been sprayed

Moved from ID Request.

To add to metrioptera
Even if they do pose a problem, I would strongly advise against gassing pesticides everywhere or otherwise killing them. Common sense precautions are probably all that's needed. Please don't panic :)

Thank you. I dont like killin
Thank you. I dont like killing bugs as they are my favorite subject to photograph so I threw it in the yard. Just haven't seen one before and it grossed me out lol Thank you everyone for the ID :)

It's a phasmid; strong match w/ Anisomorpha buprestoides
Compare:

Anisomorpha ferruginea does not occur in Florida, so it cannot be that one.
