Crane Fly? - Toxorhynchites rutilus - male

Crane Fly? - Toxorhynchites rutilus - Male
Norfolk, Virginia, USA
September 22, 2007
Size: ~12-14mm
While taking photos of Syrphid flies and small bees, I saw this fly land and thought it was a very large mosquito. Looking at the images a little closer, I think it is actually some type of crane fly.

It is on a Goldenrod plant.
