Knee-Joint Dart - Feltia geniculata

Knee-Joint Dart - Feltia geniculata
Town of Baileys Harbor, Hidden Corners Sanctuary, Door County, Wisconsin, USA
August 14, 2003
Size: Wingspan: 1 in.
Adult Feltia geniculata, #10680 came to night light. ID was made by an expert examining the specimen. Geniculata, is from the Latin word, geniculatus, meaning "having a knot or protuberance like a knee or elbow, knotted, kneed," according to "Biological Names and Terms" by Edmund C. Jaeger.

I looked at this and thought "no way"; however,
I played devil's advocate for a while, and looked at all the other options I could find. After comparing the pattern point for point, this species is by far the best fit, and this individual indeed appears to be just a really strongly contrasted, really dark example of this species.

Moved from Feltia.
