black beetle - Stenomorpha

black beetle - Stenomorpha
Los Alamos County, New Mexico, USA
Size: 18 mm
Captured in the wild in July 2017, currently in captivity along with 2 others, varying from 14-18 mm in size. I have never seen these guys try to fly, so it may be flightless.

Tenebrionid
Many large tenebs are indeed flightless, but some flying species only do so very rarely.

I suspect this one might be Stenomorpha based on general shape, but many of the large black tenebs are easy to misidentify.
