Black light on the bluffs along the Upper Iowa River
Dennis Heimdal, State Hygienic Lab and
Annotated Checklist of the Stoneflies (Plecoptera) of Iowa, writes: "I have yet to see
P. dorsata in Iowa, but haven't looked at many adults" Dennis has offered to look at adults if I collect 2018.
Dr. Greg Courtney, ISU, writes: "all adult
Pteronarcys from Iowa (>20 specimens) that are in the Iowa State Insect Collection are
P. pictetii. I believe most/all were checked by either Dick Baumann or Ed DeWalt."
As of 2017 the only Giant Stonefly documented in Iowa is
Pteronarcys pictetii although it is possible that
P. dorsata could be found here. For now I'm moving this image to species.
