Weevil pupa in Desmodium seed

Weevil pupa in Desmodium seed
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
September 26, 2017
Size: 2- mm
September 25, 2017: seed pods of Showy Tick Trefoil, Desmodium canadense, stuck to Rich's clothes after walking through the planted prairie
September 26, 2017: looked closely at several pods which were empty, had an adult weevil or wasp pupa. This one had a weevil pupa. The eyes darken first, then the rostrum, then legs, but it died.

I was so hoping that this pupa would make it to an adult so that there would be a snippet of the life cycle of just one individual.
It didn't make it. Fungal growth did not help.
