Just another small push
Just to stick in one last little two cents worth of comment on the photos from Glacier. I think he got them wrong this time round (my opinion). Compare with other shots of
S. hesperis
and
S. atlantis
in BugGuide. Also, look at shots posted on the internet from other places further east, such as from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario, etc. where only
S. atlantis
occurs. I think there is still a lot of confusion going on up there in western Canada. I also notice that in
'Alberta Butterflies' - Bird, Hilchie, Kondla, Pike, & Sperling
that the color illustration of "Speyeria electa beani" is really a specimen of
S. atlantis hollandi
. The one labeled as
S. atlantis hollandi
is correct. In
'Butterflies of British Columbia' - Guppy & Shepard
the photos of both are correct.
