Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, USA
December 26, 2017
Size: 1/10 mm
From Frans Janssens: It matches our European Bilobella aurantiaca, given the gold-yellow body colour and apically white antennae.
Christiansen & Bellinger (1998) consider USA records of B. aurantiaca as dubious, however.
So it could be a new nearctic species close to B. aurantiaca.
Therefore our tentative ID = Bilobella near aurantiaca.
BTW, it is an interesting specimen : it is moulting. Note the upwards lifted abdomen and difference in colour (white versus yellow) of parts of the cuticula. The white parts = the loose old cuticula, which has to be removed.
