Beetle larva
Mercer County, Kentucky, USA
December 21, 2017
This larva was caught by a shrike and stored on a barbed wire fence separating a cattle field from a field of native grass. Is that broad head distinctive?

Moved from ID Request.

I would guess Carabidae or Staphylinidae

The large head appears to be a result of dehydration. Since the head is more heavily armored than the body, the body probably shriveled as it dried up.
