Tentative ID. Dissection is required.
Michael Sabourin agrees that this is not likely to be
zozana
. We also considered
R. jenningsi
but it has less white in the fringe and some reddish scaling on the head posteriorly.

Rhyacionia fumosana?
R. zozana
has a red head and red scales on the thorax anteriorly. See
Powell & Miller (1978)
.
R. fumosana
looks pretty good to me. The head and thorax is described as "hoary gray." Although it's known as far north as southwest SD, western MT might be out of range. I'm not sure.
