Cecidomyiidae, Solidago ulmifolia - Asteromyia tumifica

Cecidomyiidae, Solidago ulmifolia - Asteromyia tumifica
Hidden Hollow, Clayton County, Iowa, USA
October 25, 2017
10/25/17 Collected stem gall (arrow) on elm-leaf goldenrod, Solidago ulmifolia -- thanks to my dad, P. van der Linden, for introducing me to this plant

Specimen sent to R. Gagné, who replied, "[T]he species from the stem swelling on Solidago ulmifolia is Asteromyia tumifica. Strangely enough, that gall you found is not typical of the species." (pers. comm., 29 Nov 2017)
