Fly ID Request - Sericomyia chrysotoxoides - female

Fly ID Request - Sericomyia chrysotoxoides - Female
Herring Run Watershed, Baltimore City County, Maryland, USA
September 24, 2007
Observed on an Aster (Symphyotrichum?) sp.

[Wish I coulda got a better shot of this one!]

Moved
Moved from Sericomyia.

Sericomyia sp. - female (Syrphidae)
The shot is not so bad. This must be S. chrysotoxoides, the other species in BG having white markings. Now I realize there are some Solidago with white ligules in North-America.

Nice!
A new one on me. On my part, additional studies are in order!

Thanks, Richard for an assist with this syrphid. We really need help with such flies, particularly Eris*talis.

This could be tough.
Here are a couple you may want to check:

Spilomyia
Lejops

I think the shaded wings are important.
