Cicadellid Nymph - Chlorotettix spatulatus

Cicadellid Nymph - Chlorotettix spatulatus
Pennington, Mercer County, New Jersey, USA
August 27, 2007
I found this little leafhopper nymph on my arm after walking through a field. Is this red coloration normal?

Chlorotettix spatulatus
Nymphs of Chlorotettix are quite slender, with a drawn-out tip to the abdomen; C. spatulatus are often (but not always) reddish. You will find them on the grasses known as "bluestems," which are often purplish.
