what is this? like an ant, but longer/different abdomen

Size: 1cm long or slightly less
Found in the evening on a rainy and unseasonably warm day (40F or so). It was on the floor of my kitchen, near the area of the pantry and refrigerator. It looked a lot like a small/average-sized ant (to my untrained eye) except with a different abdomen. Definitely smaller than a carpenter ant.
