Snout Beetle - Rhyssomatus aequalis

Snout Beetle - Rhyssomatus aequalis
Grant County, Kentucky, USA
March 6, 2005

Moved
Moved from Rhyssomatus.

ID
Rhyssomatus aequalis Horn Not recorded from KY, but not a surprising range extension.

Moved
Moved from Molytinae.

can be safely moved to Rhyssomatus page
(perhaps aequalis Horn, 1873?)

Moved

must be in the Molytinae
quite possibly a Rhyssomatus

Weevil.
Really nice image of a weevil of some kind. The Curculionidae is a huge family, so we might never get any closer than that, but the beak-like snout (they still have chewing mouthparts at the end of that stalk) and the elbowed antennae are clues to the family ID.
