Phaenops gentilis female on bark of a downed Ponderosa Pine - Phaenops gentilis - female

Phaenops gentilis female on bark of a downed Ponderosa Pine - Phaenops gentilis - Female
6 miles NW Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
May 14, 2012
A Ponderosa had uprooted and blown over during a windstorm in the CO foothills at !6400' elevation. When we were looking at the tree, we found this green metallic buprestid. It greatly resembled Phaenops gentilis whose larvae feed on Ponderosa Pina. I will post one most image which shows the ovipositor. The following year we saw a blue buprestid who looks exactly like this one except for color. I noticed that Phaenops gentilis has both a green and a blue phase. I will send in the blue image tomorrow. Any help is much appreciated.
