Sciomyzini?
First, thank you John for all your help with my flies!

Having compared images of this fly with the other Sciomyzini images, I see the following similarities with Atrichomelina pubera (1): white fore protarsus; very similar face (2); very similar thorax patterns, and darkened medial cross vein, (3); and overall just very similar looking (all of which does not necessarily means a species match). According to this source The Marsh Flies of California: (Diptera, Sciomyzidae), A. pubera is widespread in California, including this area. Apparently the larva of A. pubera feed on water snails, which are plentiful where this fly was caught. But I trust your better judgement as to whether this is A. pubera. Thanks again.
