Acylomus pugetanus
This is a lovely portrait of the adult and pupa of "LSD beetle", Acylomus pugetanus Casey, also showing its frassed-up host fungus, Claviceps sp., on a host grass. The beetle is widespread across southern Canada and the northern half of the US, and was the subject of a beautiful exposée by Steiner & Singh (1987), Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 89(4): 744-758.

Forgive me.
I tried to look up 'LSD beetle' but all I got was 'LSD & the Beatles'.
Thank you for the identification and information.
