Aethalura intertexta

Aethalura intertexta
Pine Brook, Isanti County, Minnesota, USA
June 17, 2011
Size: ~22mm
Likely final instar from speckled alder. This was captured using a beating tray and at first I erroneously associated it with larch. The caterpillar was, two days earlier, more yellow than red. I'm not sure if a molt was involved in the change. I have an earlier photo on larch but hesitate to post it due to the confusion factor.
Apparently prepupal by June 24. The pupa was found to be dead the following July.
