Norris City, White County, Illinois, USA
September 29, 2007
Size: Approx. 5/8 in. tall
Data posting for this species in Illinois, for the month of September.

I was sure surprised to see that Illinois wasn't represented on the data map with even a single entry! I thought I had seen one yesterday, but was not certain because it was hard to approach and I didn't get a good look at it. But, it didn't quite resemble the Gray Hairstreaks which I have been seeing lately, so the Red-Banded Hairstreak name came to mind. Today, even though it was still flighty and hard to approach, I was able to get a good enough shot for this confirmation. It's also the first one I've ever seen here.
