Black Cedar Beetle?

Black Cedar Beetle?
Seattle, King County, Washington, USA
February 7, 2018
Size: 3/4"
Black. Very passive. Does not run in reaction to light or touch. Found an adolescent in 2nd story hallway last week. Found this adult stuck upside-down just inside the front door on the floor today. These were my first sightings. I did not hear any noise coming from them.

No idea what this is but my best guesses are ranked below.

Carabus nemoralis, methinks
Definitely not Sandalus. Also quick note - don't trust insectidentification.org. Several of their photos are misidentified

Spot on!
After googling for "carabus nemoralis", that certainly seems a match! Even down to the 2 spots of slight coloration where the thorax joins the abdomen! Thank you!

Good to know about that site. It seems that Carabus nemoralis are relatively well-regarded (good for gardens). Should I be worried if I find an abundance indoors?

No, don't worry
Metrioptera beat me to it while I was typing.

Just throw the insect outside, it will do no harm indoors.

Good to know, thanks!
Good to know, thanks!

nah
They're probably just accidentally wandering indoors looking for food (or maybe for warmth since its winter).

Thanks!
Thanks!
