Freshwater ostracods

Freshwater ostracods
Galt, Sacramento County, California, USA
February 9, 2018
Size: 2mm - 5mm
Freshwater ostracods seen feeding in flooded field. Numerous. Most individuals showed orange carapace with a few appearing almost white or green. Largest individuals around 5mm. Freshwater ostracods can be seen moving swiftly in clear shallow water. They may also be found in cloudy water but may be more difficult to spot. From what I can find, there isn't a comprehensive field guide to species/genus identification of freshwater ostracods.
