I've never seen an ant quite like this one before. It looks rather elongated.

Ponerine ant.
This is a primitive ponerine ant. They live in small colonies and are not often encountered, even though they are not uncommon. Most members of the subfamily are tropical (i.e. "bullet ants" and the like).
