I've been looking at the photo as background on the computer monitors for some years. Just last week the leaf mine registered enough to actually pay attention.
I wasn't into noticing insects until Fall of 2001 (and then it was a gradual process for the first few years).

Wish I could see it more closely...
The only known Nuphar miner is Bellura gortynoides, and I doubt this is that. I wonder if it might be a channeling midge larva rather than a true miner.
