Strange larva

Strange larva
Denham Springs, Livingston Parish, Louisiana, USA
March 1, 2018
This is not a photo of the larva itself, but they leave a distinctive cylinder of fine saw dust covering their burrow into wood. I have only seen it in dead wood so far, and it has been in hardwood, pine and palm wood. I have seen them in swamp and residential areas. The larva itself is white and slender - maggot-like. They are tiny. I didn't measure but the saw dust cylinders were approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inches long and maybe a little over a millimeter in diameter.
