Parasitica, in mud nest

Parasitica, in mud nest
Stevens Sugar Bush, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
March 1, 2018
Small, barrel-shaped mud nest of a hymenopteran collected from niche in bark on trunk of sugar maple; inside, the remains of several wasps (parasites of the nest maker, I believe). Also note the small hole in the side of the "barrel."

Not sure why the nest parasite wasps never made it out of the nest. Their remains had separated into head, thorax, abdomen, legs, so I photographed these segments individually in hopes an ID to family might be possible.

The mud nest resembles those constructed by certain apoid wasps, such as the introduced species Pison koreense:
Nest, Pison koreense
