Cyclocephala lurida (Southern Masked Chafer) - Cyclocephala lurida

Cyclocephala lurida (Southern Masked Chafer) - Cyclocephala lurida
Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA
June 25, 2017
Found at the Indiana Government Center in downtown Indianapolis. The only other species this resembles that appears to be found in Indiana is C. borealis. However, the description of C. borealis is that it is rather setose (hairy) compared to C. lurida. BugGuide images of C. lurida also appear quite hairy. Only by looking very closely can you see a trace of hair on this individual, so I am placing it in C. lurida.

the hairiness cannot be used reliably to separate them
still, your ID is probably sound

Thanks!
