Chrysalis - Danaus plexippus

Chrysalis - Danaus plexippus
Fairfield County, Ohio, USA
October 3, 2007
Size: approx 1 inch
Just wondering what this chrysalis might be. It has a line of gold dots around the top and a few more near the bottom. It has been damaged (almost looks like a burn?) so I don't know if it will hatch or not. Thanks!

Looks like a monarch to me. They're bluish green until shortly before the butterfly emerges. Then they turn dark. Do a search for monarch chrysalis to see pictures in various stages of development.

Check out the chrysalis
for the Monarch in the guide. Unfortunately we don't know that yours is healthy. You may find that something else hatches out of the chrysalis, maybe some parasitoid wasp, and that would be interesting!
