Bomolocha moth - Hypena palparia

Bomolocha moth - Hypena palparia
Maplesville, Chilton County, Alabama, USA
March 18, 2018
This was a brown, orange, blue, green, and yellow moth with a wingspan of about 3 cm. He had a very striking dark brown patch on each forewing with sharp angulations on the bottom. The patches were outlined in striking white. The area from his head to his AM line was very fuzzy and tinged with blue/purple. At the inner margin he had what appeared to be elongated vertical ovals on each forewing. The ovals were lined with dark brown, had orange in the center as well as a series of dark brown dots. His PM line appeared to be a double line with white on top and orange on the bottom. It was jagged and incorporated the lower outline of the brown patches. The subterminal line seemed to be a series of irregular black splotches and had a white dusty area near the midline. The terminal line also seemed double with a series of light tan dashes on top and dark brown on bottom. His fringe alternated between dark green and tan. Did I find Hodges 8444 – Hypena palparia – Mottled Bomolocha Moth?
