Identification
Unlike most Anthomyiidae the eyes of males are dichoptic (i.e., broadly separated above, as in females). In most Anthomyiidae males the eyes are touching or very narrowly separated above.
Habitat
On seashores, also along shores of the Great Lakes.
Season
Adults are active year round, even in northern latitudes on mild winter days.
Food
Eggs are laid on the piles of seaweed, where the larvae develop.
Remarks
Fucellia is in a separate subfamily within the Anthomyiidae: the Fucelliinae.
Male 6th tergite scarcely shorter than 8th sternite, 6th sternite with expanded area on left side, 8th tergite absent, processus longi absent, epiphallus absent, aedeagus posteriorly directed at rest.
