spurge hawk moth
We were biking in Bismarck, ND and saw a gorgeous caterpillar on the bike trail. After taking a close look (and helping it off the path and into the foliage) we looked it up when we got home. I grew up near Rugby ND and we fought leafy spurge in our pastures every summer, so imagine my surprise to see the name that popped up on the caterpillar ID site!

Hyles euphorbiae?
Check out this

, and see what you think. Apparently they are finding plenty to eat in the Great Plains as the hated leafy spurge continues to invade our native rangelands.
